At 4:30 am ET Friday, the Office for National Statistics will release U.K. preliminary GDP data for the first quarter. The economy is forecast to have expanded 0.3 percent sequentially in the first quarter.
Ahead of the data, the pound dropped against its major counterparts.
The pound was worth 151.79 against the yen, 1.3763 against the franc, 1.3881 against the greenback and 0.8697 against the euro as of 4:25 am ET.
