Monday, the 2008 NMG Research survey that is part of the latest Bank of England Quarterly Bulletin, showed that tighter credit conditions had restrained household spending. The proportion of respondents who postponed their spending because of concern over further credit availability rose to 16% in 2008 from 12% in 2007.
The survey found that more households reported that credit had become harder rather than easier to access over the course of the year.
The NMG Research survey showed an increase in the number of households experiencing difficulty in keeping up with payments on their debts and other commitments.
