Malaysia's unemployment rate decreased in August, though slightly, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Tuesday.

The jobless rate edged down to 3.4 percent in August from 3.5 percent in the previous month. In the corresponding month last year, the rate was 3.5 percent.

The number of unemployed people fell to 516,900 in August from 519,000 in July. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 515,200.

The labor force participation rate came in at 67.8 percent in August, up from 67.7 percent in the prior month.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate also dropped to 3.4 percent in August from 3.5 percent in the preceding month.
