As expected, the Bank of England raised the rate by 25 basis point to 0.50 percent and maintained the asset purchase programme at GBP 435 billion.
Following the announcement, the pound dropped further against its major counterparts.
The pound was trading at 1.3134 against the greenback, 149.91 against the yen, 1.3121 against the franc and 0.8876 against the euro around 8:02 am ET.
