India's industrial production grew more than expected in January, figures from Central Statistics Office revealed Monday.

Industrial production climbed 7.5 percent year-on-year in January, faster than the 7.1 percent increase seen in December. Output was forecast to grow 6.4 percent.

The annual growth was driven by an 8.7 percent increase in manufacturing and a 7.6 percent expansion in electricity output. Meanwhile, mining gained only 0.1 percent.

During April to January, industrial production logged an increase of 4.1 percent from the same period of last year.
