South Africa's unemployment rate climbed in the second quarter after holding steady in the previous three months, preliminary data from Statistics South Africa showed Tuesday.
The jobless rate rose to 27.2 percent from 26.7 percent logged in each of the previous two quarters. A year ago, the jobless rate was 27.7 percent.
The unemployment increased for the first time since the March quarter of 2017.
The number of unemployed rose to 6.08 million from 5.98 million in the previous quarter.
