South Africa's leading index improved in June after remaining stable in the previous month, data from the South African Reserve Bank showed Tuesday.

The composite leading index climbed to 107.1 in June from 105.9 in May.

Out of the nine components, six contributes positively to the headline index in June, while three decreased.

The largest positive contributions to the composite leading business cycle indicator resulted from an increase in the number of residential building plans passed and an acceleration in the twelve-month percentage change in job advertisements.

On a yearly basis, growth in leading index accelerated to 5.8 percent June from 4.7 percent in May.

The coincident index that reflects the current economic activity rose to 102.9 in May from 101.7 in April. The lagging index also improved to 94.6 from 94.0.

Yearly, the coincident index increased 0.7 percent in May, while the lagging index slid by 2.3 percent.
