Taiwan's consumer price inflation slowed in August, the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said Wednesday.
Inflation slowed to 1.53 percent in August from 1.75 percent in July. The expected rate was 1.79 percent. Excluding fruits, vegetables and energy, core inflation stood at 1.36 percent in August.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.07 percent largely reflecting decreases in prices of clothing, tobacco and betel nuts.
During January to August period, overall inflation came in at 1.64 percent and core inflation at 1.44 percent.
Further, data showed that wholesale price inflation declined to 6.83 percent from 7.06 percent in July. Month-on-month, wholesale prices rose 0.53 percent in August.
