Portugal's consumer price inflation accelerated in September after slowing in the previous month, data from Statistics Portugal showed on Thursday.

The consumer price index rose 1.4 percent year-on-year following a 1.2 percent increase in August. Inflation was 1.5 percent in July.

Core inflation, which excludes energy and fresh food, climbed to 0.9 percent from 0.6 percent.

On a month-on-month basis, the CPI rose 1.1 percent in September after falling 0.3 percent in the previous month.

Inflation, based on the harmonized CPI or HICP, accelerated to 1.8 percent from 1.3 percent. In July, the figure was 2.2 percent.
