At 8:30 am ET Friday, the Commerce department will release U.S. retail sales for July.
Ahead of the data, the greenback fell against its major rivals.
The greenback was worth 106.67 against the yen, 0.9104 against the franc, 1.1814 against the euro and 1.3105 against the pound as of 8:25 am ET.
