Exchange Rates 22.10.2021 analysis

Asia-Pacific indicators showed a strong gain on Friday. Shanghai Composite and Shenzhen Composite added 0.09% and 0.47% respectively. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 0.19%, Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 0.39% while South Korea's KOSPI fell 0.2%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was almost unchanged.

One of the most significant positive factors contributing to the rise in indicators is the news that China's Evergrande has managed to avoid bankruptcy. Thus, the company has already made payments on the $83.5m bond. This should have happened at the end of September. This is not the only delay of the developer. The total amount of overdue payments is $ 280 million. The company will have to repay them by November 11. It has also decided not to sell a majority stake in Evergrande Property Services Group for $2.6bn, as previously planned. Amid the news, Evergrande shares gained 3.5%.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consumer prices increased by 0.2% compared to the same period last year. This was the first time in the past year that such a trend was noted. However, last month's increase was 0.4% compared to August's rate. The global Purchasing Manager Index (PMI) of the industrial sector rose to 53 points in the current month from 51.5 in September. The service sector rose to 50.7 points in October from 47.8 last month.

Some of Asia's biggest stocks have gained in value, while others, on the contrary, have lost. Fast Retailing fell 0.7%, while Sony, Rakuten and SoftBank Group gained 0.6%, 1.8% and 0.5%, respectively. Meituan shares also rose 0.14%, Tencent Holdings, Ltd. added 0.9%, while Alibaba Group Holding, Ltd. shares were down 0.06%.

Despite the decline in the South Korean indicator, SK Hynix Inc. and Samsung Electronics were up 2.4% and 0.1%, while Kia Corp lost 0.1%.

With the Australian indicator unchanged, the value of the country's largest companies fell. Rio Tinto, Ltd. dropped 1.8% and BHP Group, Ltd. slid 2.2%.
