UBS Group AG is a holding company that provides financial services to private, corporate and institutional clients. The company offers investment and retail banking as well as corporate and institutional banking services, funds and asset management, and also brokerage services.

Today UBS is a conglomerate of dozens of individual banks, many of which were founded in the 19th century. The history of UBS began in 1862 when the Winterthur bank was founded to finance the development of the Swiss industry. The UBS Holding was created in 1998 as a result of the merger of two leading Swiss banks, Union Bank of Switzerland and Swiss Bank Corporation.

Thus, UBS became the second-largest bank in Europe (following Deutsche Bank AG) and one of the ten largest financial institutions in the world, whose assets totaled near $900 billion in the early 2000s.

The company’s headquarter is located in Zurich, Switzerland. UBS has offices in major financial centres all around the world. Its offices are located in 54 countries, about 34% of employees work in America, 35% work in Switzerland, 18% stay in other European countries, in the Middle East, and in Africa, and 13% live in the Asia-Pacific region. In total, about 60,000 people from all over the world work for UBS Group AG.

The structure of the holding includes the Corporate center and five business units: Wealth Management, Wealth Management Americas, Personal & Corporate Banking, Asset Management, and Investment Bank.

The Wealth Management unit provides financial services such as capital and investment management and corporate finance planning to wealthy private clients.

Wealth Management Americas deals with transactions in the domestic markets of the US and Canada as well as offers solutions for management of capital to the customers with large and extra large funds.

Personal & Corporate Banking provides financial products and services to private, corporate, and institutional clients in Switzerland.

The Asset Management unit renders investment management products and services including stocks, fixed income, currencies, hedge funds, estate property, infrastructure, and private capital. It services private and public companies, banks, transnational corporations, insurance companies, financial institutions, and private clients.

Investment Bank ensures access to the world capital markets, offers securities and services for the analysis of stock markets, currencies, and metals as well as provides derivatives and financing.

95% of UBS Group AG's stocks are traded on the stock exchange. The most significant shareholders of UBS are GIC Private Limited, BlackRock Inc, and Norges Bank with 7.07%, 4.89%, and 3.30% of the total share capital, respectively.

The net profit of the Swiss holding for the financial year 2015 was 6.2 billion Swiss francs ($6 billion).

For years, the company sponsors the Formula One World Drivers' Championship and other various cultural and sports events around the world.
