Sweden's Swedbank Manufacturing PMI increased to 55.3 in August 2025, up from 54.4 in July, marking its highest point this year and surpassing the long-term average of 54.3 for the first time since spring 2022. The most significant growth was seen in production, which rose to 58.0 compared to 55.2 in June, followed by improvements in new orders at 57.0 from 56.5, employment at 52.0 from 51.6, and supplier delivery times at 54.0 from 53.3. Furthermore, production plans soared to 65.2, reaching a peak not seen in over three years, reflecting a positive outlook among manufacturers. However, the index faced downward pressure from the inventories of purchased materials, which were recorded at 48.6, down from 46.7. Meanwhile, the input price index slightly increased to 50.9 from 50.1, indicating mild cost pressures. According to Jörgen Kennemar, Swedbank’s PMI analyst, the easing trade uncertainty following a summer agreement with the US likely bolstered confidence, though he warned that existing risks from tariffs and global geopolitical tensions remain a concern.
