The Hang Seng Index finished Thursday’s session little changed at around 26,389, as early gains faded amid investor caution during closely watched talks in Beijing between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Sentiment was initially buoyed by expectations that the summit might help stabilise US–China relations and ease geopolitical tensions, particularly regarding trade, tariffs, artificial intelligence, and regional security. However, as the session progressed, gains were pared as traders adopted a more cautious stance ahead of possible policy signals and diplomatic outcomes from the meeting.

The technology sector continued to lend support to the market, with InnoScience Technology and Li Auto advancing 2.5% and 4.3%, respectively. By contrast, Tencent Holdings (-0.6%), Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (-3.5%), Meituan (-2.3%), and Xiaomi Corporation (-0.1%) declined.
