07.02.2019: News from Saudi Arabia boosts oil prices (BRENT, WTI, USD/RUB)

Oil prices rose at the start of the Asian trading session today. The news from Saudi Arabia provided support to the commodity.
The Saudi government decided to raise prices for crude oil that is exported to Mediterranean countries. Experts anticipate that prices for the low-grade sort will increase the most. As for the prices for exports to the United States, they will remain unchanged in March.
At the same time, Brent crude oil did not show a rapid surge on Thursday, but managed to offset some of the previous losses. This benchmark settled near the level of 62.50 dollars per barrel.
WTI prices are hovering near the level of 54 dollars per barrel. Yesterday the EIA inventories data provided insignificant support to the shale sort.
The official report on the stockpiles of crude oil in the United States showed an increase of 1 million 263 thousand barrels while experts predicted a faster pace of growth. However, the rising output in the US remains an urgent issue in the oil market.
Meanwhile, the commodity currencies are not following oil prices today. The stronger greenback put its counterparts under pressure. The USD/RUB pair is trading near the level of 66.00. Analysts do not expect the ruble to recover this week, as apart from the dollar’s bullish trend, there is a monetary policy meeting of the Bank of Russia scheduled for tomorrow. The bank’s interest rate decision may have a profound impact on the ruble exchange rate.
It is possible that crude oil will retreat from the current highs soon while the commodity currencies will continue sliding against the US dollar.
