South Africa's consumer price inflation rose in February after easing sharply in the previous two months, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.

The consumer price index rose 4.1 percent year-on-year in February, following a 4.0 percent rise in January, in line with economists' expectation.

Inflation peaked at 5.2 percent in November.

Contributions to annual inflation from transport and the miscellaneous goods and services components increased in February.

Excluding food and non alcoholic beverages, fuel and energy, inflation was 4.4 percent in February.

On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices rose 0.8 percent in January. Economists had expected a 0.9 percent rise.
