Consumer prices in Morocco rose 1.1% year-on-year in July, mainly driven by a 1.6% increase in food prices, the country's planning commission said Thursday.

An annual increase of 0.9% in the non-food products also contributed positively to the overall index. Prices of clothing and footwear dropped 0.1% annually, while transportation costs rose 0.2%.

Prices of housing and utilities increased 0.4% year-on-year in July and prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco edged up 0.1%.

Month-on-month, prices fell 0.6% in July, due to lower vegetable and fruit prices. Food prices fell 1.2% on a monthly basis and non-food prices dropped 0.1%.

During the first seven months of the year, price rose 0.7% compared to the same period last year. The annual underlying inflation was 0.4% in July and 0.5% on a monthly basis.
