Malaysia's consumer price inflation eased unexpectedly in June, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Wednesday.
The consumer price index rose 3.6 percent year-over-year in June, slower than the 3.9 percent climb in May. Meanwhile, economists had expected the inflation to remain stable at 3.9 percent.
Transport costs grew notably by 10.5 percent annually in June and prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 4.3 percent. In contrast, clothing and footwear prices dropped 0.4 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased at a steady rate of 0.2 percent in June.
