Slovakia's EU inflation measure accelerated in August after slowing in the previous month, preliminary data from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic showed Monday.

The harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, rose 2.9 percent year-on-year following a 2.6 percent increase in July. In June, the inflation rate was 2.9 percent.

The HICP inflation rate, which facilitates comparison between EU countries, has remained strong after peaking at 3 percent in April.

On a month-on-month basis, the HICP edged up 0.2 percent in August reversing a similar size fall in July.
