Hungary's economy expanded at a faster pace in the first quarter, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office reported Wednesday.

Gross domestic product advanced by unadjusted 5.3 percent annually, bigger than the 5.1 percent expansion seen a quarter ago. GDP was forecast to gain 4.9 percent in the first quarter.

Calendar-adjusted GDP also grew 5.3 percent from the previous year.

Quarter-on-quarter, GDP climbed 1.5 percent after rising 1.1 percent in the fourth quarter. The second estimate for the first quarter is due on May 31.
