South Africa's consumer price inflation slowed in April after rising in the previous month, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.
The consumer price index rose 4.4 percent year-on-year in April, slower than 4.5 percent increase in March. Economists had expected the inflation to rise to 4.5 percent.
The positive contributions to the inflation was from alcoholic beverages and tobacco, transport and recreation and culture.
Excluding food and non-alcoholic beverages, the inflation was 4.1 percent.
On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices rose 0.6 percent in April.
