The unemployment rate in Australia came in at a seasonally adjusted 5.2 percent in September, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday.
That was shy of expectations for 5.3 percent, which would have been unchanged from the August reading.
The Australian economy added 14,700 jobs last month, below forecasts for 15,000 following the increase of 34,700 jobs in the previous month.
The participation rate was 66.1 percent, shy of expectations for 66.2 percent - which would have been unchanged from the previous month.
