At 5.00 am ET Tuesday, Germany's ZEW economic confidence survey data is due. Economists forecast the confidence index to improve to 3.5 in December from -2.1 in November.

Ahead of the data, the euro traded mixed against its major counterparts. While the euro held steady against the franc and the yen, it rose against the greenback. Against the pound, it dropped.

The euro was worth 120.27 against the yen, 1.0926 against the franc, 1.1077 against the greenback and 0.8416 against the pound as of 4:55 am ET.
