Bitcoin has reached $81,000 today, indicating a continuation of its bullish trend. Ethereum has surpassed $2,500 and is trying to hold above this level.
Meanwhile, Strategy's unrealized profit from Bitcoin investments has risen to $4 billion, with the scale of the turnaround striking even amid the company's already familiar volatility. The dynamics of recent months vividly illustrate how sharply positions can fluctuate even when the number of coins remains unchanged. In mid-August, the company's total unrealized loss was estimated at approximately $10.6 billion, while the second-quarter report recorded a paper loss of $8.22 billion due to Bitcoin falling below the average purchase price.
Currently, the company holds 840,447 coins at an average price of $75,385, meaning the entire turnaround from deep losses to $4 billion in profits is attributable solely to the increase in Bitcoin's price, not to new purchases or sales.
The mechanics of such movement are well understood and predictable. Each $10,000 change in Bitcoin's price shifts the value of Strategy's portfolio by approximately $8.4 billion before taxes and other obligations, meaning that the asset's jump from the $63,000 area in early August to the current levels above $80,000 is automatically translated into multi-billion-dollar swings in the balance sheet value of reserves.
The contrast with Bitmine's Ethereum treasury under Tom Lee remains notable even after a week of such a powerful rally. The company still reports an unrealized loss of nearly $5 billion on its Ethereum position, despite the asset also participating in the broader cryptocurrency market's upward movement.
