Greek central government's cash deficit narrowed to EUR 15.8 billion during the first eight months of the year from EUR 21.9 billion recorded during the same period last year, the central bank said Monday.

During this period, the ordinary budget revenue increased to EUR 32.8 billion from EUR 31.69 billion last year. Ordinary budget expenditure, meanwhile, decreased to EUR 43.5 billion from EUR 47.99 billion during the same period last year.

The cash deficit grew to EUR 1.3 billion in August from EUR 426 million during the same month last year.

The primary deficit shrank to EUR 4.2 billion during the January to August period from EUR 11.45 billion a year earlier. In August, however, the deficit increased to EUR 1.03 billion from EUR 886 million last year.
