Gold futures were lower Monday morning ahead of a flurry of Federal Reserve speeches.

Gold for December was down 5 dollars at $1263 an ounce.

On the economic front, the Markit Purchasing Managers' Manufacturing Index Flash for October is expected at 9.45 am ET. Economists are looking for a slight decline to 51.2 from 51.4 in the previous month.

The Chicago Fed National Activity Index for September will be released at 8.30 am ET. In the prior month, the index recorded a decline of 0.55.

New York Federal Reserve Bank President William Dudley will give opening remarks at the second annual conference on the Evolving Structure of the U.S. Treasury Market at the New York Fed at 9.00 am ET.

St. Louis Federal Reserve President James Bullard will give presentation to Association for University Business and Economic Research in Fayetteville, Ark. at 9.05 am ET.

Chicago Federal Reserve President Charles Evans would give a speech at the Civic Affairs Society of the University Club of Chicago Luncheon, followed by audience and media Q&A, in Chicago at 1.30 pm ET.
