The latest opinion poll conducted by Elabe and released by BFMTV show that the outcome of the Sunday’s first round election remains very uncertain as well as the race remains extremely divisive. The Independent candidate and the leader of the newly formed ‘En Marche’, Emmanuel Macron is leading in with 24 percent support but far short of 50 percent required to win the election in the first round. The Front National leader Marine Le Pen’s support has dwindled a bit as she is expected to get the support of 21.5 percent voters. The Republican nominee Francois Fillon, whose campaign was spoiled by fake payment scandal, was able to recover some grounds and he is set to receive 20 percent of the votes and the Leftist candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who surprised everyone with last minute surge in supports is set to receive 19.5 percent of the votes.
The difference between the top four candidates is just 4.5 percent, which makes the outcome extremely difficult, if not impossible to predict as the majority of the polls show that as much as 30 percent of voters remain undecided still.
The poll also shared data for the second round of voting, however, we would not ponder upon those as the outcome of the first round would highly influence voters' decision in the second.
