Retail sales in Brazil increased 2.7% in May 2018 over the same month in the previous year, missing analysts estimates of a 2.8% advance, the country's statistics office said on Thursday.
On a monthly, basis, retail sales dropped by 0.6% in May over April, primarily due to the truck drivers' strike in the period. Analysts estimated a 1% drop in the monthly comparison.
In the 12-month period through May, retail sales in Brazil increased by 3.7%, while from January to May there was a 3.2% advance.
