India's inflation rose marginally in September, the Central Statistics Office reported Friday.

Consumer price inflation came in at 3.77 percent versus 3.69 percent in August. At the same time, food price inflation rose to 0.51 percent from 0.29 percent a month ago.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.07 percent and food prices declined 1.14 percent in September.

Among component, fuel and light cost climbed 8.47 percent and housing cost increased 7.07 percent. Clothing and footwear prices logged an annual growth of 4.64 percent.

Despite rising crude prices and currency weakness, the Reserve Bank of India, last week, lowered its inflation forecast to 3.9-4.5 percent for the second half of the fiscal year 2018-19. The bank projected 4.8 percent inflation for the quarter ending June 2019.
