South Korea's consumer confidence improved for the first time in five months in February to its highest level in as many months, survey data from the Bank of Korea showed on Tuesday.

The consumer sentiment index rose to 99.5 in February from 97.5 in January.

Consumers' sentiment regarding the current living standards and their future outlook rose in February and the corresponding indicators climbed to 93 and 92, respectively.

Households' confidence on future household income dropped marginally, while that concerning future spending remained the same as in January. The relevant indicators were at 98 and 109.

The index measuring current domestic economic conditions climbed to 70 from 65 in February and that regarding future domestic economic conditions strengthened to 80 from 76.

The expected inflation rate over the following year was 2.3 percent.

The results are based on survey responses from 2,307 households between February 11 and 18.
