Private capital expenditure in Australia was up a seasonally adjusted 2.0 percent on quarter in the fourth quarter of 2018, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday.

That exceeded expectations for an increase of 1.0 percent following the 0.5 percent decline in the three months prior.

On a yearly basis, Q4 capex was up 1.9 percent.

Capex for buildings and structures gained 3.2 percent on quarter and fell 2.9 percent on year, while capex for equipment and machinery gained 0.7 percent on quarter and 8.1 percent on year.
