At 4.30 am ET Thursday, the Office for National Statistics is scheduled to release UK retail sales for November. Economists expect retail sales to grow 0.2 percent on month, reversing a 0.1 percent fall in October.
Before the data, the pound held steady against its major rivals.
The pound was worth 1.3105 against the greenback, 143.60 against the yen, 1.2850 against the franc and 0.8493 against the euro at 4:25 am ET.
