In August 2025, the UniCredit Bank Austria Manufacturing PMI experienced an uptick to 49.1 from July's 48.2, reaching its highest point since July 2022. This improvement is attributed to a notable increase in output, as production volumes rose at their fastest rate since May 2022. Additionally, purchasing activity showed the smallest decline witnessed in over three years. Meanwhile, there was a moderation in the contraction of new orders, indicating the initial signs of demand stabilization. Although export sales decreased, they did so at one of the slowest rates since the downturn commenced in May 2022. Conversely, employment numbers fell for the 28th consecutive month as companies continued with cost-reduction measures. Regarding pricing, input costs surged at their highest rate, while output charges dropped for the fourth consecutive month due to competitive pressures. Looking forward, business confidence remains positive despite a slight dip from July’s peak. Companies expressed optimism driven by expansion plans, product launches, and anticipations of an economic recovery.
