Mauritius experienced a slowdown in its annual inflation for the second consecutive month in August 2025, settling at 4.8%, down from July's figure of 5.2%. This decline was largely driven by the reduced price increases in several sectors: food and non-alcoholic beverages dropped to 2.8% from 4.5% in July; furnishings and household equipment decreased to 4.5% from 5.7%; and miscellaneous goods and services saw a reduction to 2.4% from 2.7%. However, certain areas recorded significant inflationary pressures, particularly in insurance and finance services, which maintained their increase at 13.2%; restaurants and hotels rose to 12.2% from 10.7%; alcoholic beverages and tobacco recorded a slight decrease to 9.5% from 9.7%; and health costs continued at 8.1%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices saw a minor decline of 0.1% in August, following no change in the preceding month.
