In August 2025, the Netherlands saw its annual inflation rate confirmed at 2.8%, a slight decline from July's 2.9%, reaching the lowest point since May 2024. This deceleration was primarily influenced by a reduction in price growth. Specifically, the cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 4.2%, compared to 4.7% in July, while the prices for housing and utilities decreased to 4.6% from 4.8%. Notably, inflation experienced a significant drop in sectors like upholstery and household appliances (0.9% versus July’s 3.4%), and slightly less so in health (3.3% compared to 3.4%) and in restaurants and hotels (1.3% as opposed to 1.8%). Conversely, certain categories saw slight price increases: transport prices nudged up to 1.1% from July's 1%, and costs related to recreation and culture rose to 3% from 2.8% in the prior month. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices witnessed a modest growth of 0.2%, a notable slow down from the sharp 1.2% rise seen in July. Additionally, the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), utilized for comparisons within the European Union, increased by 2.4% year-over-year, slightly down from the 2.5% recorded the previous month.
