In August 2025, Mongolia experienced an increase in its annual inflation rate to 8.8%, up from 8.1% in July, marking the highest inflation since March. This uptick was driven by higher costs in several sectors: food and non-alcoholic beverages saw a significant jump to 9.9% from 6.4% in July, healthcare rose to 6.2% from 5.2%, transport increased to 3.6% from 2.9%, and prices in restaurants and hotels climbed to 12.8% from 12%. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices moved up to 4.9% from 4.3%, while communication costs edged up slightly to 1% from 0.8%. Conversely, price growth slowed in some areas: education costs eased to 12.8% from 18.2%, clothing and footwear dipped to 8.4% from 9.1%, and furnishings, household equipment, and tools decreased to 5.8% from 6.3%. Similarly, recreation and culture prices declined to 5.6% from 6%, miscellaneous goods and services lessened to 8.6% from 10%, and housing and utilities costs slightly fell to 19.8% from 19.9%. Prices for insurance and financial services remained steady at 15.3%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices increased by 1.6% in August, recovering from a slight 0.1% decline in July.
