In August 2025, Colombia's unemployment rate declined to 8.6%, down from 9.7% in the same month the previous year. Notably, in the country's 13 major cities, the unemployment rate fell to 7.8% from 10%. During the rolling quarter from June to August, the cities of Quibdó, Riohacha, and Ibagué recorded the highest unemployment rates at 24.4%, 14.2%, and 12.5% respectively. In contrast, the lowest rates were observed in Cali at 7.8%, Villavicencio at 7.3%, and Medellín at 6.4%. The population outside the workforce totaled 14.69 million, with the majority occupied with household duties (54.4%) and educational pursuits (24.3%). The labor force participation rate stood at 63.9%, and the employment rate was 58.4%, compared to 64.5% and 58.3% in the previous year.
