In October 2025, Malta experienced a 1.0% decrease in industrial production compared to the same month in the previous year. This comes after a downward revision of a 1.8% decline in September, signifying the second month of consecutive contraction. While manufacturing output remained in the negative, the rate of decline was less severe (-1.4% compared to -2.8% in September). There were significant decreases noted in sectors such as other manufacturing (-11.7%), rubber and other non-metallic mineral products (-3.6%), and food and beverage production (-2.9%). Amongst the principal industrial categories, decreases were seen in capital goods (-8.0% compared to -11.8%) and consumer goods (-0.1% compared to -7.2%), while intermediate goods displayed accelerated growth (10.2% compared to 7.1%). When energy is excluded, industrial production fell by 1.2%, following a previous month's decrease of 2.7%. Adjusted for seasonal variations, monthly industrial activity saw a modest increase of 0.5% in October, bouncing back from a revised 2.3% decline in September.
