The FTSE 100 edged higher on Wednesday, reaching a six-week peak as the broader situation in the Middle East remained largely unchanged, with the US and Iran reportedly progressing toward a second round of peace talks. Corporate updates also lent support to market sentiment.
Antofagasta gained more than 2.5% after reaffirming its full-year production guidance and emphasizing strong medium-term fundamentals for copper. Barratt Redrow also advanced about 2.5%, stating that the immediate impact of the conflict is expected to be limited. However, the housebuilder cautioned that uncertainty may increase beyond the current financial year, citing potential headwinds from higher interest rates and energy-driven cost pressures. The company highlighted stable demand and a robust forward sales position as key supports for its outlook.
On the downside, Burberry fell more than 3%, weighed down by disappointing results from luxury sector peers Hermès and LVMH.
