Belgium posted a trade surplus of EUR 4,481.8 million in February 2026, up from EUR 2,677.6 million in the same month a year earlier. This was the largest surplus since September 2023, as exports declined less sharply than imports.
Exports fell by 2.0% year-on-year to EUR 40,949 million, reflecting lower shipments to both EU countries (-1.4%) and non-EU markets (-3.2%). Imports dropped more markedly, by 6.7% to EUR 36,467.2 million, due to reduced purchases from EU partners (-0.1%) and especially from non-EU countries (-17.5%).
Over the first two months of 2026, Belgium recorded a cumulative trade surplus of EUR 7,769.3 million, compared with EUR 2,890.5 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.
