The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the Euro Area edged down to 6.2% in March 2026 from a revised 6.3% in February, matching market expectations. The number of unemployed decreased by 63,000 over the month, to 10.984 million people.
Youth unemployment remained elevated, with the jobless rate for those under 25 holding steady at 14.9% and 2.354 million young people out of work.
Among the bloc’s largest economies, Spain (10.3%), France (7.7%), and Italy (5.2%) recorded the highest unemployment rates, while Germany (4.0%) and the Netherlands (4.0%) reported the lowest. One year earlier, the euro area unemployment rate had been slightly higher, at 6.3%. Across the wider European Union, the unemployment rate stood at 6.0% in March.
