US energy companies injected a near-normal 85 billion cubic feet of natural gas into storage in the week ended May 8, matching market expectations. That compares with a build of 109 billion cubic feet in the same week a year earlier and a five-year average increase of 84 billion cubic feet for the 2021–2025 period. The latest addition lifted total inventories to 2.290 trillion cubic feet, about 2.3% above the level of the same week last year and 6.5% higher than the five-year seasonal average. By contrast, in the prior week ended May 1, storage levels had increased by 63 billion cubic feet.
