The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships transporting dry bulk commodities, declined for a second consecutive session on Tuesday, slipping about 0.6% to 2,667 points amid widespread weakness across all vessel classes. The capesize index, reflecting earnings for vessels typically hauling 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, fell 0.7% to 4,046 points, its lowest level since June 18. The panamax index, which measures rates for ships carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, also decreased 0.7% to 2,045 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index edged down 0.6% to 1,705 points.
