Romania’s annual inflation rate eased to 10.4% in June 2026, down from 10.9% in May. Food inflation slowed to 5.8%, compared with 6.8% a month earlier, largely due to declining prices for fruit and canned fruit (-9.5% vs 5.5%) and for vegetables and canned vegetables (-2.6% vs 0.6%). Price increases also moderated for oil, lard and fats (6.0% vs 6.1%), as well as for meat and meat products (6.1% vs 6.2%).

Inflation for non-food goods also decelerated, to 12.3% from 12.5%, reflecting slower price growth for fuels (16.0% vs 19.2%), chemicals (7.7% vs 8.2%), tobacco and cigarettes (6.8% vs 7.4%), clothing (6.6% vs 7.1%) and footwear (5.9% vs 6.2%).

By contrast, service inflation inched up to 13.7% from 13.5%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.1% in June, a marked slowdown from the 0.6% increase recorded in May. The HICP-based annual inflation rate also eased, to 9.2% in June from 9.7% in May.
