Belgium's consumer confidence strengthened in September after stagnating in the previous month, survey data from the National Bank of Belgium showed Tuesday.

The consumer confidence index climbed to 3 from 2 logged in both July and August. The score was -2 in June.

The latest reading was the highest in at least a year.

The improvement in September was largely due to the continued optimism among households regarding the unemployment trend for the next twelve months.

The corresponding indicator dropped to -2 from 0.

Further, households' view regarding the general economic outlook also stabilized with the measure holding steady at 6.

Meanwhile, consumers were hardly optimistic regarding their personal financial outlook for next 12 months and the indicator edged up to zero from -1.

They were also less upbeat regarding savings over the next year and the measure fell to 3 from 4.
