The total number of home loans in Australia issued in September was down a seasonally adjusted 2.3 percent on month, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday - coming in at 55,812.
That missed forecasts for an increase of 2.0 percent following the 1.0 percent gain in August.
The value of loans sank 2.1 percent on month to A$20.665 billion following the 0.9 percent increase in the previous month.
Investment lending skidded 6.2 percent in September to A$11.837 billion following the 4.3 percent gain a month earlier.
