Klabin's net income totaled R$ 125 million (US$ 35.7 million) in the first quarter of 2018, a 79.2% decrease over the same period in 2017. Over the last quarter of 2017, the Brazilian papermill reversed a net loss of R$ 83 million.

Klabin's net revenue totaled R$ 2.189 billion, a 17.2% increase in the quarterly comparison, but a 5% drop over the fourth quarter of 2017.

According to the company, the increase in revenue was due to the "improved sales volume of some products, especially pulp and kraftliner, coupled with the improvement in international prices."

That, along with cost control, contributed to a 41% increase in the adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) - which deducts from the result the increase in the value of biological assets and other items - in the annual comparison, to R $ 760 million. On a quarterly basis, however, there was an 11% decrease.
