At 4.30 am ET Thursday, the Office for National Statistics is scheduled to issue UK retail sales data for August. Sales, including auto fuel, are forecast to drop 0.2 percent on month in August, reversing a 0.7 percent rise in July.
Ahead of the data, the pound advanced against its major counterparts.
The pound was worth 148.01 against the yen, 0.8872 against the euro, 1.3187 against the greenback and 1.2745 against the franc as of 4:25 am ET.
