Finland's trade balance registered a surplus in October, amid a fall in both exports and imports, preliminary data from the Finnish Customs showed on Tuesday.

The trade balance registered a surplus of EUR 5 million in October versus a deficit of EUR 242 million in the same month last year. In September, trade deficit was EUR 195 million.

Exports declined 2.2 percent annually in October and imports fell 6.2 percent.

For the January-October period, exports increased by 2.2 percent, while imports decreased 0.9 percent. The trade deficit was EUR 840 million compared to EUR 2.5 billion from last year.

Exports to the EU countries decreased by 3.1 per cent and those to non EU countries fell 0.8 percent. Imports declined 7.8 percent and those from non EU countries dropped 3.5 percent.
