South Africa's leading index rose in October after easing in the preceding month, survey data from the South African Reserve Bank showed on Tuesday.

The leading index rose to 103.9 in October from 103.2 in September. A similar reading was seen in August.

Eight of the ten components increased in October, while two decreased, the central bank said.

The largest positive contributions came from an increase in the number of residential building plans approved and an improvement in the BER's Business Confidence Index, the SARB said.

The largest negative contributions came from a decrease in job advertisement space and those of the US dollar-based South African export commodity price index.

The coincident index increased to 104.3 in September from 104.1 in the previous month.

The lagging index decreased to 95.3 in September from 96.3 in the prior month.
